How to get your first WhatsApp message approved by Meta
Before you can send a message to your contacts first, Meta has to approve it. In Endelir this is called a template: you write it once under Templates, choose its category, submit it, and use it for every broadcast after it is approved.
Before you start
- Your WhatsApp number is connected. If not, connect it first.
- You know what the message is for: an offer or announcement (Marketing), or an update about a booking or order (Utility).
Step by step
- 1 Open Templates Click Templates in the menu, then Create Template.
- 2 Choose the category Step 1: Choose Category. Marketing for offers, news, invitations and announcements; Utility for updates about something the customer did with you. Click Next: Build Template.
-
3
Name it
The Template Name is for you, not the customer: lowercase letters and underscores, such as
monthly_meeting_invite. Pick the Language you wrote it in. -
4
Write the message
Write the Body as you would to one person. Put
{{1}}where each person's name should go, and{{2}}for the next detail. A header (a line of text, a photo, a video or a document) and a footer are optional. A photo or document header needs a sample file for Meta to review. - 5 Add buttons if you want Quick reply buttons, or a website link. For marketing, switch on the Unsubscribe Button so people can opt out with one tap.
- 6 Create Click Create. Endelir sends it to Meta and it shows as PENDING. When Meta decides, it changes to APPROVED or REJECTED. Click Refresh from Meta to check. When it is approved, step two of Get started on your dashboard is ticked.
What helps a message get approved
- The right category. Meta treats an update with an offer inside it as marketing.
- It says who it is from. Your business name in the first line helps the reader and the reviewer.
-
A real sample for every
{{1}}, and a real file for a photo or document header. - One clear purpose per template. Make a second template for a second kind of message.
Questions
Why does Meta need to approve my WhatsApp message?
Meta approves every message a business uses to start a conversation, or to write to someone who has not messaged it in the last 24 hours. Replies to a customer who wrote to you in the last 24 hours do not need approval.
Should I choose Marketing or Utility?
Marketing for offers, news, invitations and announcements. Utility only for an update about something the customer already did with you, such as a booking, an order or an appointment. A utility message with promotional content in it is treated as marketing.
How much does each approved message cost to send in India?
Meta charges per delivered message: ₹0.8631 for marketing and ₹0.115 for utility, on its INR rate card effective 1 October 2026.
My template was rejected. Can I fix it?
Make a new one with a different name, with the change, and submit it again. Check the category first; it is the most common reason.
